What is "participatory defense"? Participatory defense campaigns are focused on individual clients facing wrongful detention or other unjust circumstances identified by pro bono attorneys serving those in detention. The client will consent to publicizing their story and being the focus of a campaign. When a case like this arises, volunteers and organizers will rapidly mobilize to seek justice for the individual in a timely manner by writing petitions, contacting ICE to call for person’s release, emailing/calling members of congress, alerting the press, and other strategies informed by attorneys for applying public pressure.
